Who is

Maimônides
1135 a 1204

Rabbi  Moshe Bem Maimon, or RAMBAM, was Born in Cordoba, “Islamic Spain” in 1135. During his lifetime, Maimônides – as he came  to be known – was an inspiring example of sincere dedication and altrusitic services to all, Jews and non-Jews, rich and poor, all in an equal light. It was through such acts that he became one of the most famous figures in world history. For all those who sought him for help, RAMBAM advised them to find health, both in the spiritual and physical sense, a philosophy which combined his role as doctor a psycological and spiritual guide. In literature, he became a scholar of philosophy, expressing broad universal ideals. His manuscripts are, by tradition, transmitters of Jewish tradition, inspiring a model of human accomplishment in different areas while always permeated by a sense of equilibrium and harmony. In our day and age, in which we are surrounded by so many material and spiritual afflictions, Maimônides example and orientation benefit man in his continuous search for progress.

FUNDADORES DO LINAT HATZEDEK, 17 DE FEBRUARY DE 1932

INALGURAÇÃO DO ANBULATÓRIO DE GINICOLOGIA
Although Maimônides Day Hospital is the first hospital linked to the Jewish community in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Sul, the Idea of an Israelite Institution associated with health care and benefaction is not a novelty. On August 17, 1932, a group of twenty immigrants without any resources to invest in health care founded the Israelite Mutual Aid Society (“Linat Hatzedek”, in Hebrew) in the city of Porto Alegre. Today, the society is directed by Maximilian Glasser. In addition to maintaining a Synagogue, the Institution also sought to sponsor religious instruction and
provide medical and pharmaceutical care to its associates under the supervision of Dr. José Faibes Lubianca. The Synagogue now stands at the address of the old society (Rua Bento Figueiredo, 55). Among the founders of Linat Hatzedek and the coordinators of the gynecology outpatient departament was Pinkwas Wais, grandfather and great grandfather of the directors of Maimônides Day Hospital, who appears in the photos below.

Maimônides Day Hospital provides superior helth care, employing values such as huminism, solidarity and benefaction. The insitution’s mission is to provide continuity to the Jewish philosophy of solidarity and social peace. “The hospital also represents the name Maimônides, who defended the idea that we should help all human beings, regardless of race, creed or skin color”, said Rabbi Mendel Liberow, of Beit Chabad do Brasil, one of the groups supporting the Project. The hospital seeks to provide its patients with safety, comfort and care through appropriate treatment and refined techniques. In this way, the institution is able to reduce hospital stays, and as a consequence, treatment costs.

Prayer
Doctor’s

Oh, supreme G'd, before I begin my blessed work of curing the creatures made by Thy hands, I spill before Thee um supplications: give me the courage and abundant energy to perform my service with faith. That the longing to accumulate riches or goods not hide from my eyes the correct vision.
Give me the merit to consider all those who suffer and come to request my advice, without defference between rich and poor, loved or hated, good or bad people. In their suffering, show me only the human, and let my love for medicine strengthen my spirit. Let only the truth light my path, as any weakness in my work could cause destruction and disease for the creatures made by Thy hands.I supplicate Thee, oh merciful and gracious Lord, to encourage my body and soul and to sow within me a righteous spirit.

Rabbi Moshe Bem Maimon, or Maimônides

State-of-the-art
Technology

Maimônides Day Hospital differs from conventional institutions in that it uses modern surgical techniques and equipment with state-of-the-art technology. Such methods allow for a reduction in the period  a patient remains at the hospital. Consequently, the average hospital stay does not exceed 24 hours.
The operating room has direct acess to external resources and removals are performed by advanced life support ambulances. Among the surgeries that can be performed at Maimônides are procedures in the areas of urology, pediatrics, gynecology, plastic surgery, optometry, orthopedics, oncology, otorhinolaryngology, endoscopy, vascular surgery, general surgery and video surgery.

Full attention and permanent updating

ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT AMBULANCES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVALS

With personalized treatment, a general and oral-maxillofacial surgery center, an adult and pediatric Intensive Care Unit (UTI) and recovery rooms, Maimônides Day Hospital has adopted rigorous procedures that aim at higher levels of asepsis to avoid contamination. Constructed entirely of granite, satinless steel and glass, the building has a panoramic elevator and an air-conditioning system equipped with plasma filter. The beds in all rooms are monitored, and the building uses an automated system linked to a health care plan database – including eletronic records – in addition to major research and information centers from all over the world.
